Artist's Statement

My sculptures rely heavily on geometric shapes; however, they all start from an idea for a motion; so, to a greater part - I design motion and a sculpture is the result. This motion, whether actual or implied, brings inert metal into an environmental dance, uniting the basic elements of earth air, and fire. The Earth, the most basic of elements, provides a stable foundation. A contradiction of elements; cold hard steel and sun-warmed wind, meet in my work to create a piece whose composition is constantly changing. These conflicting qualities work to create a dynamic interaction of sculpture and environment – creating a balancing act between wind, gravity; cast shadow and sculpture.
