ABOUT:

Windhenge® Art Works creates environmentally interactive sculptures that animate public space. Relying on the local microclimate; the invisible power of the wind meets the metallic structures of these artworks to produce an environmental dance of constantly changing shape, color and cast shadow. 

Creative Director, Randy M. Olson, draws inspiration form a language of geometric symbolism. Working from a background ranging from graphic design, architecture and electronics, Olson uses the abstracted shorthand of these fields as the visual basis for his artwork. Conceptualizing a new work begins with the idea for a motion. Utilizing the language of geometric symbolism gives form to the motion – and a sculpture is the result. 

Working in concert with the local environment, these artworks complement the benchmark of LEED Certified buildings. As an embodiment of sustainability, these works bring focus to the myriad of forces that effect our footprint – acting as a constant reminder of the balancing act that must take place between structure, environment and humans. 

As a Wayfinding Device these works act as an accent piece to the public plaza. From the ancient Greek Agora to the contemporary Plaza, people have felt the need to commune in a common space. These artworks provide a defining visual focus point for these transient activities.   

Being in touch with the natural environment these works harmonize with Holistic Space. Uniting the elements of sun warmed air; cold, hard metal rooted into the firmness of the Earth brings this trinity together into a naturalistic dance energizing the space.
